After watching the first few matches of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, I as a newcomer believed that cricket was a sport more pre-determined than boxing. All the favorites won their respective games with ease. When I saw the Netherlands beat South Africa, a team which is only among a few who could challenge India for ultimate gold I was shocked and angry first at the fact I hadn’t laid down a beat on a +1000 underdog and that South Africa may not be able to take India out, unless they show up with an over 350 batting performance. Now as I’m watching the last couple of bats for Afghanistan a team that already dispatched England for one of the biggest upsets in world cup history, I am happy to see them take down Pakistan as well and possibly to challenge for a semifinal spot. Only time will tell but nothing seems to be guaranteed anymore in this tournament. Cheers to more upsets and risky bets!
